Occupational Accident and Non-working Notification Processes for Intern Students

Students receiving vocational education at higher education institutions and who are required to undertake internships during their higher education in accordance with the relevant legislation are insured against occupational accidents and occupational diseases pursuant to subparagraph (b) of Article 5 of Law No. 5510 on Social Insurance and General Health Insurance, published in the Official Gazette dated 16 June 2006 and numbered 26200, and these students are considered insured under subparagraph (a) of the first paragraph of Article 4.
In the event that an intern student suffers an occupational accident, it is mandatory for the workplace where the internship is carried out to notify the Social Security Institution of the occupational accident no later than three working days following the accident. If a medical leave report is issued for the student, a notification must be made electronically by the relevant university unit through the Notification of Non-Working Entry screen available in the SGK Employer System. This notification must be made within five working days following the entitled medical leave period (Section 7.1.6.2 of SGK Circular No. 2011/50 dated 13 June 2011).
If the notification is not made electronically and within the prescribed period, an administrative fine amounting to one-tenth of the monthly minimum wage per insured person shall be imposed; if it is not made at all, an administrative fine amounting to one-half of the monthly minimum wage per insured person shall be imposed.
